Sex Work Mentorship In a Nutshell Part 1: Save Your Money and Read This Blog.

Genius Meme by Yours Truly, NYC redhead escort and domme Rose Blaze

Sorry but, sex work mentorship is a bit gross, and I'll explain why.

I taught myself how to level up and learned everything I needed to know from online SW forums about screening, ad sites, finding an incall location, planning photoshoots, creating websites, how to use TER, how to stay safe...the list is endless. Speaking with other SW's in direct messages, reading every thread on SW social media, participating in group chats also taught me a lot.

I feel called to share some of this information with you for free because I know that generously blessing others blesses myself. This information was also learned via literal blood, sweat and tears. If just one person reads this and gains something from it, my purpose is accomplished. I also wish more seasoned providers like myself wouldn't try to profit off of other SW's and would instead write down everything they've learned (as some have, I'm not the first) and share it freely.

I also believe that the skill behind in-person SW can't be taught: Either you're good at fulfilling fantasies, making clients believe you're attracted to them, or you're not. Either you have the confidence to play a role or you don't. This will never be taught via zoom mentorship chats or online courses, no matter how charming and charismatic the leader of said courses is.

Good in-person SW's can turn on and off our sexuality. We have the ability to connect with total strangers in an authentic way. These skills will never be taught so save your money.

This isn't what clients or the general public want to hear, but most people start doing SW because they're in need of money. No, most SW's aren't unspeakably horny, although that helps. Yes, a person can consent to doing a job if they do the job because they need money. lol.

SW is the only job we're supposed to passionately love OR ELSE.

But this brings up the question: Who's paying for SW mentorship if most providers start doing SW because they need money? Most FSSW mentors aren't cheap and costs run into the thousands. Most mentors do payment plans but at the end of the day, I think it's a bit gross to charge other (usually) desperate women for knowledge than can save their lives.

Because money saves lives. Money pays for medical care. Money pays for childcare. This knowledge shouldn't be kept behind a paywall and maybe some folks aren't as internet savvy as I am and don't know about sex worker forums. I also learned a lot from SW Twitter spaces, just chatting in DM's and private group chats which I know newer SW's don't have access to.

I'm not saying FSSW mentorship can't benefit some people. But those are already privileged SW's who can afford the thousands most of these mentors charge. I'm an egalitarian, down-with-the-system of inequality type of lady plus I love to write/create/express myself and my experiences in this hidden world of ours that fascinates many.

So here's a short intro guide detailing everything a mentor will teach you. This doesn't apply to niche sex work like domination, online SW, findom, etc. This applies to in-person FS SW. I'll be writing a few blog posts on this because there's a lot to share.

Rose's Mentorship 101: Invest in Your Brand

One of the biggest mistakes I made when starting SW was neglecting to invest in myself and my brand. Please believe me when I say this: Every dollar spent on your brand will pay exponential dividends.

Just do it. And have faith.

a) Invest in a website and your own domain.

This is ridiculously cheap and easy. You don't need to hire someone to create your website. I'd never do that because in case you couldn't tell, I'm a bit intense about every detail of my work and wouldn't want to rely on someone else to painstakingly update my site.

Template websites abound, like Wordpress and Squarespace. It's around $25/month for a website and $10/year for a domain name. This pays for itself. I can't tell you how my clientele improved once I finally built my own website and secured a domain. Your own domain/site shows that you're serious about business and won't run away with a deposit, that you're reliable, a business person who must provide a high quality service. If you don't have a website, potential clients lose faith and without fail, pick the SW who does have their own website.

I can create an SW website in a few hours. These sites are very intuitive and we're not selling a tech product that requires a super expensive looking website. Worry about that in the future if you want to but most providers I know create their own site because hiring someone isn't necessary.

b) Invest in multiple photoshoots.

Before social media dominated our lives and SW, I used the same three horrible selfies for years and made bank. Then the number of providers exponentially increased while clients decreased, due to a variety of factors. So the number one expense when getting started should be photoshoots that will set you apart from the masses.

Today, I know some providers who do a new shoot every month. And they're super viral on socials, booking more clients because of it. Shoots make you look rich n fancy. It says, I can afford to take photos in this luxurious location. I must be good at my job if I can afford all this. This can be done cheaply, but you'll have to leave a comment on my Bluesky if you want me to explain how to do luxe photoshoots on a limited budget.

This was my biggest mistake when I was starting SW: I didn't see the point in photoshoots. I did one and said, that's good enough. But if your bookings are slowing down, it's possibly because you need more photos. Or you need different photos. My inbox is always open if you have questions, by the way. Class and style can't be taught and these photoshoots should read as "classy" "elegant" "upscale" if that's what your rate structure suggests.

c) Invest in your appearance.

This doesn't mean fill your face with botox, fillers, and plastic surgery. Although, a little high quality plastic surgery can elevate our brands. In my experience hearing from other providers, breast implants make them more money. I'm happy with my boobs now and have a health condition that would make plastic surgery a stupid idea but if big boobs would make a person more confident, it's useful in this business.

A little botox definitely helps but new research suggests that using a lot of botox makes lines form in unusual places and lowers the forehead, making our eyes look smaller.

A new study on filler shows that it doesn't dissolve when viewed via MRI. It clogs the lymphatic system, increasing risks for cancer and many diseases. A little lip filler can be cool if a person has thin lips, but that's never been an issue with me so I don't have experience. But lip filler always migrates outside the lip line and can look odd in person, but great in photos.

Filler also causes the face to droop as it stretches the skin and we get "filler face" so these cosmetic procedures should be used sparingly, in my opinion. Contrary to popular opinion, this business isn't all about looks. But a few tweaks can help.

What I really mean by investing in your appearance is: Learn how to apply makeup in a subtle yet effective way. We're giving class. Don't overdo it.

Invest in upscale lingerie and a few nice items of clothing to wear to bookings. You want to dress like the partner of the clients you want to attract.

Go to the gym. Physical movement is a spiritual experience for me. It also gives the body a look that's appealing to many clients. However, many different body types are appealing to many different body types.

d) Invest in advertising.

I see providers complaining that they don't have enough bookings when they're not even paying for premium Tryst. Guys, please don't cheap out on ads. I wrote a previous blog post showing how the views on my Tryst ad increased a ton when I switched from Premium (currently about $110/month) to Premium+ (about $175/month). Everyone else is paying for Premium+ if you're in a large escort market like NYC, so please be sure to buy the plan that will bring you views and level the playing field.

In my experience, Eros isn't worth it but I haven't tried advertising with them in a long time. I wrote a previous post analyzing different SW advertising websites that I'm too tired to link. Scroll through my blog posts to find it.

Some providers invest in business cards and use these while "freestyling" or searching for clients in the wild. If you enjoy freestyling (I do not) then this option is for you. I prefer prowling Central Park in a t-shirt that has my website address plastered all over the front and back while slowly eating a banana.

Investing in photoshoots, classy lingerie/outfits for photos is also part of your advertising investment (if you want more upscale clients).

I'm writing this blog post under the power of a full moon so I know just this short sections alone with help out a few folks. My goal is to build real community and building real community requires sacrifice at no gain to oneself aside from the spiritual high of knowing I'm expressing myself while leaving valuable information on the table for the few who care to learn.

Ok, end of Part 1. Please leave a comment on my Bluesky if you liked this post. If you are a SW mentor and didn't like my blog, please leave a comment on my Bluesky. This is the internet, baby, and all attention is good attention.

And remember:

You are all that is and all that will ever be. You are source. You have immense divine power within you.

Anything is possible with self belief.
