Is SW Twitter Dead? My Twitter Tales and Tips

Sex Work Twitter is a tricky beast that has bested me a time or two. I started my Twitter (no, I'll never call Twitter "X") in 2018 or 2019 (the exact year escapes me) and followers flew quickly into my next of hot gingerism. Back then, I hadn't done a professional photoshoot but still, my photos easily got a decent number of likes. As people grew to know who Rose was, I built a decently large following for an in-person only SW. Those who do webcamming or online content have followers who find them through these online platforms. My only source for my followers is and was my Tryst ad. Maybe a small handful found me through PD. So working my way up to 6k followers to 2023 was something I was proud of.

Then, summer 2023 happened and I noticed a drop in engagement. In the fall, I discovered a post on r/sexworkers, naming me, my Twitter, outing my anonymous Reddit handle (that only a few SW's had heard of) and spreading a lie that I maliciously "doxxed a client's employment information" when I don't even screen with employment information. The mods removed the post immediately after I reported it. I said, wtf, how could you allow this? It violates so many of your rules against naming SW's and gossiping. And it factually isn't true. You're really playing with people's livelihoods here, allowing attacks against sex workers, which is against your rules. Of course they're silent.

But the damage to my business was done and I was at a crossroads. So many folks in the community had blocked me based on a ridiculous rumor, explaining the death of my Twitter engagement. Should I rebrand? It had taken me years of work, commenting, scrolling, engaging, following, holding spaces and forming painfully inadequate parasocial relationships to build my Twitter. I had sacrificed my mental health because, let's face it: scrolling on a red pilled porn-centric app isn't the healthiest thing to be focusing on.

The negativity and bullying on SW Twitter are extremely powerful and SW's who harness these qualities get tons of attention. Being on Twitter beyond simply posting our content is simply bad for our brains. Research shows us that people who spend more time on social media tend to be lonelier and suffer from higher rates of mental illnesses. Hiding behind our screens, bullying and cruel behavior come easy to many. I didn't want to go through all of the suffering and typing toil it would take to start a brand new Twitter. But I also didn't see the point of staying around on an account that many SW's probably had blocked. So I pulled the trigger and said "bye, bye" to the old me.

I also no longer resonated with my prior persona. An untreated neurological condition had led me to maybe vent a bit on Twitter. We all know that's what alt accounts are for. Either way, I decided an entire rebrand was necessary because, well, I fucked up. Sure, it's not my fault that someone with a resentment spread a rumor attacking my business and the moderators of an extremely powerful subreddit oddly allowed it. But I do have the power to, painful as it is, start over. I built something from nothing once, here's to round two.

Since Elon took over, Twitter usage is down 1/4 and getting engagement/followers is definitely much more difficult than the first time around. Twitter in 2019 was extremely busy as we were all indoors and now, people just aren't really online. Myself included. Because I'm attempting to grow my new brand I scroll and leave comments but it's soul sucking, totally vacuous, none of it's real. We're all just putting on a show for potential clients/one another. I suppose one could say that's what I'm doing here. But you get a real piece of me in my writing that doesn't translate to heart emoji Twitter posts.

Because Twitter is very much dying, I think it's helpful but not necessary for providers to have a Twitter. Most of the good clients are not on Twitter. They're out in the real world, living life, having a martini at the bar. So go get 'em, Tigeress! Of all the social media platforms, Twitter allows the most hate and bullying. It's actually encouraged by their algorithm. So I recommend spending as little time as possible on Twitter. If it's causing you anxiety, if it's the first thing you check in the morning, log off (maybe permanently).

Don't forget to retweet yourself! That helps to boost you in the algorithm. I find it helpful to schedule times where I log on to follow other SW's, scroll and leave a million comments. Then I limit myself to checking the app once or twice a day. But I'm thinking of lowering down to only once a day. Twitter is slowly dying so check out other social media platforms like Threads, although that app isn't even yet "alive" 😂 Remember, Twitter is advertising so I keep it light, fun, positive (usually) and don't often discuss politics.
