How Sex Workers Can Utilize the Tryst Ad Site: Prosper in a Saturated Market

"I haven't had a booking yet from Tryst. Is this site really worth it?" asked an anonymous Twitter user. My, how times have changed.

Tryst has harmed the business of providers who advertise on their site due to a few changes that were, in the opinion of many SWers, greed motivated. The site is still, however, the best in-person SW advertising site and the most respectful, generous clients use it so read on if you want to learn a few tips and tricks I use to get the most out of my Tryst experience.

First, allow me to explain a bit about the site and what mistakes the Tryst team has made that caused most of the SWers who use the site to receive far less inquiries. This is, obviously, my opinion as an almost Day 1 Tryst advertiser. I'm also taking into consideration what all of my provider friends report and what I've heard in Twitter spaces and on anon SW Twitter/Reddit, places where we can actually talk about industry challenges on non-client facing accounts.

Greedy, Greedy

Some folks may not remember how the introduction of the three homebase "Premium+" feature tanked business for many SWers in major cities due to Tryst's monopoly on the in-person SW market. No other ad site really works, at least that's what I've experienced. The bottom line is that inquiries have gone down for many providers since the tier allowing three home bases was created, making the market ripe for a new competitor to take over.

I get that some providers may say, "Why wouldn't I want my ad showing up in multiple cities?" Well, because everyone's ads are now showing up in multiple cities, oversaturating the site and confusing customers. We wouldn't need to tour as often or worry about seeing clients in nearby cities if the site went back to being less saturated. If all advertisers had one homebase, we wouldn't have to stretch ourselves thin trying to reach as many clients in other cities.

It's illogical to have three homebases because no one can be in three places at once. Most clients want an appointment same or next day for, say, and hour or 90 minutes and it's not worth it to travel three hours one way for an hour booking in a "homebase" that's not actually your homebase.

Instead of 2,000 profiles showing up for clients browsing a city's Tryst ads, there are 3,000 profiles. We would all have to travel and tour less if Tryst removed this newer "Premium+" tier they created to, in many SWers opinion, make more money.

Big cities like NYC and LA now have at least 4,000 profiles listed, with only a fraction of those ads actually belonging to providers located in that area. It's ridiculous and inquiries have plummeted for many providers after the introduction of this more expensive "Premium+" tier. For all their woke imagery and blogging, they are a business and actions speak louder than words.

That said, Tryst is still at it's core a good site. Unlike other sites, they allow us to gasp show nip! And we can control our ads, hiding them, changing our work names, and much more. The site was obviously created with input from a SW and not made by some dude in his mom's basement ala PD. It's also cheaper than Eros (I wasted $1,500 on Eros and never booked a client.)

Tryst seems to genuinely care about the community. It would be great if they weren't trying to extract more money from SWers by saturating the site with three homebases, but oh well. Progress not perfection.

I'll now explain a bit about how I view my brand and in-person SW generally and apply that to how I utilize Tryst.

A National Presence

I see my brand as a national one, not just a NYC brand because I tour frequently and my clients are often from across the nation and the world. If we want to book traveling business clients, it's smart to think of our brands as national and do what we can to be visible nationally.

I know some of you cringe at the idea of being a brand. Why? You're selling an experience. A product. You're a brand. You get paid. There's no shame in that. I break the fourth wall discussing the fact that this is work, a brand/business, and yes, I love it.

Many of us tour because the industry is so saturated and traveling is a smart way to increase profits. For those of us who tour regularly, it's smart to ensure that our ad shows up in multiple cities over time because the Marketing Rule of 7's states that a customer must see an ad seven times before buying the advertised product.

This is why it's useful for me to always buy the most expensive "Premium+" Tryst tier. That way I can alternate my home bases based on which cities I want to tour. I booked a few extremely profitable tours this way. I want my ad showing up over, and over, and over again in multiple cities so that finally, he takes the leap and reaches out to book me instead of lurking.

(Hi, Tom, Mike, Dan, Steve: I see you lurking. I am a witch, after all. Stop consuming my labor for free and book me. Or at least tip me with a gift card. It's the least you can do for furtively enjoying my fascinating blogs unraveling the mysteries of SW. I also happen to know that you've been jerking it to my exquisite, unedited Bluesky videos. The Universe will bless you if you bless me. I guarantee it.)

Hi Steve. Hi Mike. Hi Dave. Hi Tom. Hi V.P.! I love my Lurkers.

Watching and Waiting

Many of my clients tell me that they've been watching me for months if not longer. This is why alternating home bases every month is useful. Potential clients will follow me on Bluesky after seeing my ad show up in their city and eventually book when I tour or they visit NYC. I also booked a FMTY to a city I listed as a homebase.

Potential clients also visit my website and subscribe to my newsletter (as I'm sure you have) to get updated on new blog posts, tours and photos. If you don't have a pop-up advertising your newsletter... Why? It's very easy to set a lightbox that will trigger after X number of seconds and yes, it may be annoying to some, but it's made me a lot of money so I'm keeping it.

I don't have a set newsletter that goes out every month because I don't think it's necessary. But it absolutely is necessary to collect email addresses from potential clients who are on our sites. I have spoken (too much) about needing to rebrand after two predatory providers, V.P. and E.L., fake MD extraordinaire, began doxxing/outing/harassing/slandering me/my business (and did the same to other SWers who intelligently remain silent) after we began warning people publicly about them doxxing/outing SWers.

Having a list of email addresses of folks who subbed via the pop-up on my site was invaluable when I had to start a new site and socials.

You may think that'll never happen to you. I certainly didn't. This industry attracts more people with antisocial personality disorders than other industries and you never know who they'll come for next. It's also simply smart marketing to collect emails but now I'm off on a tangent and this is a Tryst blog. Apologies.

That's right, Dorothy. It's time to renew your Tryst subscription.

Invest in Your Business

The biggest mistake I made in the past with Tryst was not paying for their most expensive tier. The more money we spend with Tryst, the more visible our ad is on their site. It's worth the extra money to have an ad that's actually visible and doesn't show up 20 pages in.

I already explained the benefits of having multiple homebases. Want to book traveling business people? Pay for Premium+.

Alternate Photos

I probably should take my own advice and do this more often. When we take new photos, it's best to only post a few at a time to Tryst. These (mostly) men do not need to see 20 or even 10 photos of us. We want to siphon them onto our socials and website to follow us or book us, not keep them on an ad site so it's best to give a lil taste, a tease by showcasing our top 7-10 (or less) photos. I alternate photos every few months and am working on editing my Tryst ad photos down.

Local clients get bored seeing the same photos over and over again. This is why I do photoshoots as frequently as possible and am shooting again this month. An easy way to get the clients in our city to look at our ad again is to post new, quality or shocking photos. Anything that grabs attention is good and it doesn't have to be professional.

Weird butt pix are great. Appeal to the mammalian brain and we'll win every time. Tryst is so saturated with SWers that the weirder, the better.

I will write a Part II to this blog post if it gets enough interest on Bluesky. Please be sure to like my Bluesky post advertising it's existence and comment! Repost! I get tons of views on these posts but only a small fraction of readers remember to hit ❤️ on my post.

(Some do. I love you.)

Non-SWers, please consider showing your gratitude for my writing by gifting me something from my Luxylist www.luxylist.it/roseblaze or send me a Lyft, Uber, Amazon, or Etsy gift card to gift_mexoxo@outlook.com
